the past few days weeks for me have been so overyl emotional. Out of the blue I will just cry for no reason and I can't stop. I'll do this maybe every other day or so...just an hour or so of crying. I always feel so much better emotionally, but my knots in my neck and shoulers will tense up like crazy and i'll have a tremendous amount of pain for days. I can't even get out of bed the pain is so bad. So I know it's good to cry and get it all out, but now I'm scared too because of how much pain it causes me. I also don't want to bottle it all up, like i've done all my life.

You should definitely cry. I make sure to schedule a good cry once a month or so, so that I can let it all go with the tears. And yes, the pain is normal. Sometimes I'll have pain following the crying, or just before it. It's my mind repressing the feeling. Often, after I cry, the pain stops.

It's also important to think about why you are crying. And then, you have to come to peace with whatever it is...you accept you for who you are and stop judging yourself so harshly. You don't change reality, but you change how you feel about it. Then you are balanced and the pain should be in check.

Oh, what sad memories your post brings up, roxygirl. Your pain sounds so much like mine was. When it was the worst, nothing would help except to draw a nice hot bubble bath and cry my eyes out! Sometimes I'd have a SMALL glass of wine while in there and of course a lot of advil and/or tylenol or alleve. I would cry for at least thirty minutes to an hour and then when I was done, the pain would be lessened enough that I could get to sleep. Now that I know about TMS I think it was because the crying helped purge some of those emotions that were causing it -- and now that the pain is gone, I try to never bottle up my emotions but cry whenever I need to. John's advice is GREAT: Cry away and do the best to tell yourself the pain is TMS, it's not harmful, and crying is treatment.

hah yes!! I actually realized the same thing today, it is definitely my cycle (sorry guys)

But you're right, i think my tension comes from feeling guilty...and also because I expect it to happen, since it always has before. So I have to brek that cycle and know that it's perfectly naturally to cry and get it all out. Thank you for the reply =]

OMG, I have cried SO MUCH during this whole process, especially when realizing certain issues that needed to be resolved.

Do you tense up when you're crying because you feel guilty about crying for some reason? Feel that you shouldn't be crying? You might want to explore that. Just an idea.

Usually crying makes me feel better, not worse.

Also, Roxygirl, I assume that you ARE a girl, so could some of this crying be hormonal, related to your cycle? I used to get really depressed for a few days every month. It was alarming, until I tracked it on the calendar and realized it always synchronized with my period!

oddly enough, during my recovery process i've only cried once. and it didn't have much of an impact on my pain at all. i cried because i wanted to be loved, and i felt like there wasn't very much love in my life.

what really helps me is breaking my personality into little pieces. i can't really explain how to do this though. it's painful as hell though, that's all i know. no tears come from it. it's more like anguish, to put a word to the feeling. anguish and rebirth.

thank you...that's what i thought. Because I feel like someone lifted a boulder off of me amotionally when I cry, and it feels so good. But a few hours later my pain will increase so much, but I just can't worry or expect it to.

Do it anyway. Depriving yourself of crying and blaming it on the pain will give the pain a lot of attention. Cry away and do the best to tell yourself the pain is TMS, it's not harmful, and crying is treatment.
