Hi,

I just wanted to share a small TMS success story from today. This will be old hat to many of you as it seems like a pretty classic "no duh" kind of moment but for me it was really cool!

I was moving some things around in storage. I was doing fine until I lifted one thing & suddenly got that sharp "OW did i just lift this wrong & throw out my lower back?" type of sensation that could mean a few hours of discomfort.

Anyway I said "Wait a minute here, this thing wasn't even that heavy, what was I just thinking?" and realized that the item I lifted brought up some negative associations and I was stewing about them right when I lifted it. Once I realized this the pain vanished and there was no lingering effect from the "improper lifting" experience.

COOL!

Thanks for the support, Dave.

It has gotten easier for me to accept that pains can be TMS... still working on not having doubt about the other symptoms that seem to be attributable to "endocrine imbalance" but I am getting there.

And thanks everyone who shares their success stories on this board, it means a lot.

Glad to see you are on the right track. This is exactly what you must do over and over to recondition your response to the pain.

Expect that sometimes, it won't work. Your brain is clever and stubborn and will do whatever it can to perpetuate the symptoms. But this event should help reinforce your belief that the pain is benign and a response to emotional and not physical issues.
