Posted - 07/14/2012 : 22:58:28 I just secretly snuck off to LA and had 3 sessions with a great TMS therapist: Derek Sapico. His number is 323-537-7515. I highly recommend him (and I've been a therapist for 32 years and have been to everyone, although only one other "TMS therapist").
He had two lines of approach: (1) the cognitive/behavioral aspect of TMS - i.e. to discipline myself more to treat everything as TMS instead of getting into the symptoms, whatever they may be and (2) the "etiology" meaning what's underneath the distraction or expression of unresolved feelings that is happening.
I found him incredibly helpful, compassionate, bright, insightful and with a lot of energy for TMSers. I felt very seen by him.
I was recommended to him by someone on this site.
I'll probably write more about all this but I just got back and felt like giving this information right now. He does phone and skype, although I'm glad that at least to get started, I had in-person sessions.

I've worked with Derek as well. Great guy and hr helped me a lot. I'm using another mode of therapy right now to deal more directly with pure anxiety symptoms but Derek was great in helping me gain more understanding of TMS principles, which I believe is part of the puzzle for me. In fact, I plan to resume with him some day. |
