Wondering if anyone knows of a good TMS oriented doctor/psychologist/psychiatrist in the Pacific Northwest United States
(Portland/Seattle/Vancouver or surrounding areas)?
A search of this site didn't turn up anything -- so I thought I would ask. Thanks |

Dave Clarke is phenomenal, cnotes. I believe he's retired now, but I'm sure he'd be happy to talk with you, and take your financial situation into account. He's talked over the phone with several of my clients for no charge.
He's a physician though, and can help you with diagnosis more than treatment.
Regarding TMS therapists, I don't know any of the ones on Tom's list. I know of several skilled TMS therapists that conduct sessions over Skype.

They are on the TMS wiki's list of TMS physicians and practitioners, I don't have any personal experience with them since they are not in my area. Their charges are what any physician or practitioner would charge. I would prefer to give my money to someone who has an open mind about the origins of "dis-ease" and injury then to someone who only takes an allopathic approach. Call or email them and see how they sound to you, ask them about their TMS beliefs.

One other thing @tennistom...can I ask on what basis you recommended these people or how you found them? Is it simply the fact they approach things from a TMS perspective in the area mentioned?

I just wanted to dig alittle further -- I researched everyone on the list. Some sounded promising. But as someone with no insurance when you started considering $350 consultation fees out of pocket its extra important to be discerning.
Better yet if anyone on the forum has direct experience with any of these people it would be nice to hear from you. Many have websites with testimonials -- but to me those are largely meaningless.

Dr Clarke is a clinical assistant professor of medicine emeritus at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), a clinical lecturer with Pacific University, is board-certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and practiced Gastroenterology in Portland, Oregon from 1984 to 2009. He has frequently appeared on TV and radio. He says,“In 1983 I encountered a patient whose illness baffled two universities. She was cured with a few months of counseling by a psychiatrist who shared her methods of diagnosis and treatment. Subsequently I used and further developed her concepts to help over 7000 patients. My book for patients, They Can't Find Anything Wrong!, was published in 2007, enthusiastically endorsed by leading medical school professors and even translated into Hebrew for publication in Israel. I closed my practice after July, 2009 to travel the US teaching health care professionals and the public how to uncover and manage the hidden stresses that are capable of causing physical illness. I have also done over 100 television and radio broadcasts since the Fall of 2007. My long-term goal is to make stress illness a routine part of the education of health care professionals.” Dr. Clarke was also a speaker at the 2nd Annual TMS Conference March 2010. I don't know him personally, but I thought his book was quite good and he seems very attuned to the notion that much physical pain can have psychogenic causes and experienced in differentiating. |

I looked him up, yes he is located in Seattle..looks to be part of Swedish Medical Center I take it in posting that you recommend or endorse him?
I glanced at his website, watched his intro video, it sounded good -- but its hard to tell. |
