Is there an easy way to tell on this board if there are new messages that I have not read when I log back on? Or do I have to go through each topic individually- or I guess I can tell by the time stamp of the most recent message? Also, what does the 'hot topic' symbol mean. I am pretty new to this type of board Thanks.

Dave would be better to answer this but I had the same Q”s also?
From what I see, if you go to the TMS HELP/Help and Suggestions, you will see in the statistic area, then you will see
(There are currently # topics and # active topic since you last visited.)
I dont see if it answers about if there are any NEW messages sinceyou last visited? Can you answer this one Dave
As far as the hot topic --it shows a burning folder when more than 10 replies have been made.
Also for Dave is there a spell check edit in this program? I think am gonna really need it.
Thanks

As it is now, the messages within a topic are organized with oldest at the top, newest at the bottom. Is there a way to reverse this, or could there be, so that one doesn't have to scroll all the way down to get to the most recent replies? |

I like it better with the old one first! If you havn´t been reading the board for a while you can go in and read the discission "from beginning to end" |

Each time you log in, topics which have new posts since your last login will be shown with a purple folder icon. If the folder icon is yellow, it means there are no new posts in that topic since your last login.
By default, topics are sorted by last post. Topics with the most recent posts will always be shown at the top of the list. (You can change the sort options at the bottom of the grid.)
The 'flaming folder' icon simply means that there are 10 or more posts under a topic. (If the board gets busier, I may change this to a higher number.)
Currently, there is no way to control the order of posts within a topic; they are always displayed top to bottom. I will check to see if there is an option to allow this to be changed. |

I think the fact that topics are pushed to the top of the list when someone adds a reply is great, since it keeps topics from "disappearing" down the list so fast. with the number of people posting to the old board, I felt like valid topics were getting kicked down the page (or off it) so fast that they werent getting always fully discussed/ appreciated. so the new way is cool; I would guess topics would stay "alive" until lack of replies finally weed them out...a better method than purely chronological!

Best would be if the individual user could control the order of posting within a topic, as he can now control the order of the topics themselves. Some no doubt like it the way it is, although they may tire of scrolling down to the most recent post in a topic when there are 50 or more of them. |

I don’t know if this was mentioned in other words, besides the pink folders (new topic/posts)
When viewing the topics
Look at the bottom of the grid Showing topics sorted by Showing topics 1- # sorted by --------- IN ascending/descending Order, from last #------- days
You can set it up by last day since you logged on -in descending order and it will view by date.
Another feature you can use is “active topic” put in a date since you past logged in and select a date or say yesterday and it will show a pink folder with the new post since you past logged in.
Always Hope For Recovery

Gary, your wish is granted.
While viewing a topic, there is now an option at the top to change the sort order of the posts. |

Excellent, Dave. "Original Post First Then Newest Replies", which apparently becomes the default once you select it, is a great way to get the best of both views. Thanks. |

Dave, here's another one: Is there a way to make the "reply" message, while you are still composing it, "sticky" so that if you leave the window and come back, your partially-composed reply will still be there?
I know that this quality varies from place to place. On some boards, the partial message is sticky, on some it is not.
For example, let's say that I want to look up a word using Cleverkeys or check out a Google reference relating to something in my reply. It would be nice to be able to do that without remembering to open a new window for it first, then just come back. |

The purple folder icons are helpful, but it would also be useful if messages I have not read were somehow marked (as different colors were used on the previous board). This would speed up finding what's new. |

Good suggestion. I will look into that possibility. |

Do private messages go to one's regular e-mail address or is there a special private messaging aspect of this board that I'm not familiar with (and am not finding) that other boards have? ......thanks....Bill |

Private messages are sent via E-mail. |

I've tried all the various view modes but am still interested in a listing of topics by date and/or by thread. Even using the yellow/purple folder mechanism its still very difficult to find topics that I have not yet read (the next time I log in). Any suggestions welcome. Thanks, -Stryder |

When I try to use special text features, such as BOLD or Italic, it puts the HTML (or formatting code...looks like HTML) after the text I highlighted to "bold" or "italicize". I also can't seem to use COLOR., the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong? To use the special board features, I have to manually move the HTML to where it needs to be. I even tried FONTS (that was supposed to be Verdana), but it again, put the HTML AFTER...everything goes to the END of the sentence or paragraph if I choose a special Format Tool. Do I need to use Prompt? That seems so cumbersome. ------- ------- Again, with my moving the HTML all over... Also, if I add a smiley, it jumps to the very end of my post, and I have to move it to where it belongs.
I just tried using Prompt, and it puts the test at the very end of the post, so I'd need to type it as I go along and use Prompt. I don't get how to use this board yet, obviously! |

By default, topics are listed with newest posts first. So, those appearing at the top of the list might have messages you have not read.
If the folder is purple, then there are messages in the topic you have not read. If the folder is yellow, you have read all the messages in that topic.
Once inside a topic, you can change the sorting of messages in that topic. For example, you can view newest messages first. This should make it easy to spot which messages you have not yet read. |

Before selecting special formatting, you must highlight the text that you want to apply the features to.
For example, type a complete sentence. Then go back and double-click the word you wish to highlight. If you wish to highlight more than one word, hold the mouse button and drag to select all the words you wish to change. Then, while the text is selected, choose the formatting to apply. This will place the tags around the selected text.
Text inserted via Prompt mode, or smileys, are always inserted at the current cursor position. Usually this is the end of the message, but you can place the cursor anywhere in the message simply by clicking. |

Thanks, Dave. OK, I'm trying the formatting.
I'm now going to select a block of text and tell it to be bold. This sentence will be highlighted and be BOLD.
Nope, doesn't work. It put the formatting code after the sentence even if I'd selected the text and left it highlighted and clicked the "B". [ b ][ /b ] (I added spaces to show the code) is at the end of the sentence even after doing exactly what you said. Hmm.
Could it be my browser? I use Safari on Mac OS X. I'll try Explorer, then Netscape (both using OS X, though) |

Here I go again, In Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X.
This sentence will be bolded text. Cr@p. No go.
Guess it's a Mac thing...? |
