After 5 months of real pain with CTS I read a Dr Sarno information session. I knew I was reading the truth. I fitted into every symptom mentioned. The next day I went to work and did a normal day. Today was even better. I was even quite calm when I was telling those around me that it was all in my mind. I had quite a bad attitude toward work and those who I worked with. The emotion was stored in my mind and my mind freaked out, so in self defence it created a discraction in the form of RSI. When I went back to work as normal I had a great day. Everyone was friendly. There is plenty more to do there but I know I am totally healed. I was wondering however, why nobody mentioned TMS as even a possibility after being cast away by medical specialists?

I think nobody mentioned it because nobody knows about it.

Keep in mind two things

1) If the general population (and I'm NOT talking about Sarno enlightened people like you and me) accept the TMS diagnosis and subsequent cure, that invalidates a lot of their pain, and a lot of their excuse for not facing demons, not facing work, etc.

2) Nobody likes to hear "it's all in your head", so medical practitioners and friends and family aren't going to say that. I know if someone would have said that to me when I was suffering pre-Sarno, I wouldn't have received it well. I would have felt invalidated.

Glad you were cured so fast.

Congratulations on your transfromation Max. Attitude, attitude, attitude, has a lot to do with it--maybe everything to do with it. Is the glass half full, or half empty?, you reap what you sew--oh so true.

Congrats Max!

Most people just don't know about Sarno. I only found his theory after 3 years of RSI -- count yourself lucky!

This is a great question, and I have been asking it recently based on my experiences. A few days ago I went to the bookstore to buy yet another book on back strengthening and stretching when I came across Sarno's book. I started reading it in the store and decided there and then that I fit the personality type to a tee. I purchased the book and read it in 2 days. I am fairly confident that TMS is my problem, but wonder why not one of the medical professionals I have seen since 1999 including: numerous chiropractors, accupuncturists, naturopaths, physical therapists, an orthopedist, a physiatrist, and a spine and sports medicine specialist in 2 different states had/have mentioned it as a possibility?

I have to say, I am scared to death of "hurting" my spine further. I mustered up the courage to play tennis today after not doing anything physical outside of the doctors recommendations for years. You know no bending, running, etc. etc. It went well, but as I said I am fearful. It is very difficult to look the medical community in the face and say - you don't know what you are talking about.

I am struggling...

Hang in there Turtle. Medical people only know what they know or learn. Sarno learned by asking some original questions and not buying into what his colleagues believed 30 years ago. TMS is a paradigm shift. Your medical profs probably don't know about TMS b/c it's not a SEXY-come-back-and-see-me-in-4-weeks kind of a Dx. TMS treatment doesn't require a prescription. That sounds synical I guess, but the med community is marketed to by bazillion dollar drug companies selling products to treat illnesses/diseases--not necessarily CURE them. Check out what wikipedia says about TMS. It's good stuff, but even they have TMS flagged as "controversial"

Good for you that you got out there and played. That's GREAT progress. Keep it up, and if you get different of more intense symptoms try to press through them. Take your brain and body back and tell your brain you aren't putting up with this anymore!
