To Everyone:
I was thinking it might be nice to start a thread to see how applying Sarno's theories has helped. I just checked the members list and in the past 10 days, there's been about 65 people who have posted some type of message. That's a pretty good level of activity.
For those taking the time to read this who have given Sarno's treatment process some effort, simply reply with A, B, C, D E or F:
TMS Treatment has:
A: Completely eliminated the pain 100%
B: The Pain is mostly gone but I still have minor twinges that are of little concern to me. I'm no longer afraid.
C: I still have frequent severe pain but it's much improved and my quality of life is better.
D: I've seen no improvement, but it hasn't gotten worse either by using Sarno's theories
E: I feel worse for even trying this process.
F: I haven't seen results because I just found out about Sarno or just started the process.
Let's just see what comes back on this survey without adding our own comments or theories on why you are where you are.
Dave, feel free to veto this thread if you have reason. But I am really curious as to the results. I'll summarize it all for you guys once we get enough feedback.
Thanks!
Dan
PS: My answer is B. |

A for round one of my TMS (10 years ago) E for round 2, but replace the word "pain" with "extreme discomfort"
Hence my post, Webdan. I think the problem is that TMS theory has expanded quickly over the last decade to the point where it mingles with general psychosomatic theory--is there a distinction? Should there be? |

A
major hand pain from typing vanished like THAT. As did eye dryness, and minor knee pain, shoulder pain, and what felt like a budding hernia in my stomach.
What I still have are skin conditions: psoriasis (not sure if this came after the pain or of it's always been around. I am now attuned to bodily symptoms to a much greater degree than I was pre-Sarno.), warts, and acne on my face and thighs (quads, not hamstrings). I suspect these are all TMS equivalents. |

I'd have to say A, although I do get minor twinges from time to time. But rarely of the same pain, and really, really minor.

A - pain completely gone now for a long time. Pain pretty much was gone within a week or so after accepting the lower-back and sciatica pain as TMS. Even though I had been in pain for months with no help from exercises, chiropractic, etc, frankly, I can't prove this was not coincidental since there was no effort on my part (i.e. - no real attempt at journaling, therapy, etc.). Apparently everyone is different, so I'm open to whatever works, TMS method or not. In any case, just glad to be free from the pain ;)

do you think she's just having a placebo effect and will be back in pain soon? |

Hey Gang:
Despite Shary's other posts ruffling some feathers, I'm not sure how valuable it is speculating on whether she'll be back after some placebo affect wears off. It almost seems like the purists in the group are on the edge of their seat just waiting for that to happen so they can say - "told you so."
Shary applied Sarno's emotional/psychological theories along with some "body work" as she put it. Whether it was the Sarno work or the body work or combination of both - we'll never know. Let's just be happy she is feeling well regardless of how she achieved her success in eliminating the pain.
At the same time, Shary - please try not to intentionally throw doubt into everyone's mind about the effectiveness of Sarno's approach. Even YOU can't be 100% sure whether it was the TMS based work you did or the body work or both.
Yes, there are purists here who strongly defend Sarno and their belief in his work. (I'm one of them.) There are others more skeptical but trying to work the program regardless. And since many of us are fighting the TMS pain - it's easy to get cranky.
My take - let's use this forum for productive dialog. Let's help remind each other about the treatment process. Perhaps throwing out our personal situations and asking for group feedback as Shawn did a few days back. I hope that was valuable for Shawn - getting the feedback on his personal history.
Can't we all just get along? LOL
