i have a cold. this sucks.

i've defeated "colds" and "allergies" before, but this seems to be sticking around. i'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but this seems pretty real. i slept like 12 hours last night and i've just been dead tired all day with my nose stuffed up and head pressure and whatnot. this is a bunch of bs and i hate it.

however, it does kind of respond to some of the rage release stuff i've been doing. for instance when my nose was really stuffed up i got really mad at it and was kinda screaming at it and stuff and it backed off. uh

so has anyone had success on this front or is this one of those diseases that's actually real?

Colds are caused by a variety of viruses. There's two main ways we can get colds (IMO):

1) A strong and very contagious virus attacks and overcomes our immune system.

2) A mild or moderate virus attacks an immune system dampened by TMS/stress, and we get sick even though we normally wouldn't.

In both cases, doing TMS emotional work can help the progress of the virus, but in both cases we are also actually ill and need to take care of ourselves physically more than usual. In case 1 we may need to take care of ourselves a lot more than usual because those viruses are the knockout kind -- that's the kind you have right now if I were to guess.

I would keep the TMS work gentle when you're ill unless you feel a real need to do rage release. I would guess that the response to rage release was actually a response to the physical things you were doing -- sometimes when I have a cold I play my clarinet and my nose feels better; it's because I'm doing some kinds of breathing and putting pressure on it that can change the sinus dynamics.

But my main point is, the best time to do TMS work around colds is before you have them. Once you have them, you are physically ill and should take care of yourself. The time of reduced activity around a cold can be a great chance to do self-care (soothing and caring for both the outer and inner selves) and reflect on what's going on in your life (TMS emotional work).

Yep, I would second the idea that the nose unblocking could just be to do with a different breathing pattern when you got angry. I know when I'm on a treadmill when I have hayfever it will temporarily get better and my nose will unblock. I've practised Buteyko breathing before which goes into some detail about levels of 02 and C02 and how these affect how well you can breath through your nose. Might be worth checking out. I guess frustratingly there are some 'illnesses' which just have to get better of their own accord! Grrrrr.

Yes, I've had some success on this front. Not 100%, but much better than previously.

Btw TMS illnesses are real, too!

i'm almost better now.

my nose is okay and my tiredness is waning. i remember back in the day when i was a mess of emotional repression colds would last for weeks on end. this one was only about 24-36 hours. wooha. i love emotional expression.

Colds are caused by a virus. Viruses are not TMS. The immune system can be compromised by stress though, but in the end, colds would not exist if it were not for the virus.

Non-TMS, happy, healthy, and balanced people get colds. Everyone has had a cold in their life, with the exception of maybe one out of a million. Would that mean everyone has TMS? NO

The whole thing about "is this or is this not TMS" could apply to basically every known disease or ailment out there.

I believe it's in MBP that Dr. Sarno goes over how allergies are an over reaction of the immune system, and colds are an under reaction.
What controls the immune system? The brain, of course. Six months ago I had a head cold and tried a sinus rinse called NeilMed sinus rinse. This seemed to help the symptoms, and shortened the length of the cold. It is supposed to help with allergies, too.

I've noticed that I'm more suspectible to colds and viruses when I feel rundown, either emotionally or physically or both. I also seem to be more vulnerable around "that time of month." When my kids were younger they were always bringing home some sort of illness. My immune system isn't the greatest and I'd always seem to catch whatever they got.

I have actually been able to avoid getting colds by taking Zicam at the first sign of feeling sick. I'm very skeptical of homeopathic remedies, but this stuff really does seem to work. My teenage daughter tried it a few months ago when she felt a cold coming on and it stopped her cold dead in its tracks! Is it a placebo effect or does the zinc really do something? I'm not sure. All I know is that every single time I've used it properly I did not get sick -- the developing cold symptoms went away after a day or two!

The trick with this stuff is that you have to start using it as soon as you realize you're feeling sick. If you wait until you have full-blown symptoms it doesn't do much.

I prefer the q-tip type of Zicam (it comes in many forms -- personally I would avoid any type that you put in your mouth because it tastes NASTY). The q-tip type is easy to use and leaves no weird taste in your mouth or weird smell in your nose. You have to use it consistently every 4 hours for it to be the most effective.

Anyway, thought I'd pass it along. I keep a stockpile of this stuff in my house in the winter.
