Need an opinion- I have had burning pain in my feet for over eight years now. My dx was made from my reported symptoms and a test I failed. The test in some ways was very subjective. Its called a quantative semsory test. In the course of the test you have to report as to changes in thermal temperature. Well about two years ago my wife bought me one of Dr. Sarno's books. When I finally got around to reading it my pain improved over 90%. Over the past week I have had alot of pain and have thought about retaking the QST test. I think whats keeping me back in times of worry is thinking that I failed that test so maybe I do have nerve damage. I feel that I cannot totally except TMS until I do that. Am I setting myself up if I take it? As one member mentioned in the past I am one of those that are in the middle of the road and to fully except the TMS theory I feel I need to take a gamble and take the test so I can move on. What do you think??

The problem smells of tms all over, otherwise why would it go away 90% after reading the book? The temp will change with the level of blood circulation (tms)and if it does , so what? If you got results that quick reading the book one time , you can do even better re-reading the book more times. The more times you read the book the more your unconcious brain will relate to the information.Remember the things that bother your unconscious brain are not logical. If you saw the tape of ABC 20/20 show done by John Stossle(sp?)there was a girl who managed the Rosie Odonnell show and her feet got so bad she had to ride a wheel chair.Rosie asked her audience who could help, and they shouted Dr.Sarno.She tried every medical option, with no success(surprised?)Visited Dr.Sarno and was running in no time. The burning in your feet is probably tms and can be self treated. You had your feet checked out by a Doctor, who I'm sure ruled out anything serious, such as cancer, etc. So get back to the system and feel well soon! Paul.

So you took a test and failed it, then you were told this meant you had permanent nerve damage. Then you read Sarno's book and your "permanent" nerve damage was %90 healed. Does that tell you something about the validity of this test? It ought to. If you failed it the first time I'll wager good money you'll fail it the second. How's that going to help your confidence?

If your nerves were permanently damaged years ago there is no way reading Sarno's book would repair them. Sarno's method dosen't "fix" structural problems, it educates and enlightens you to the fact that you don't have a strucural problem to start with. It appears to me you accepted this at one time but now you are doubting it. I agree with Pault, if reading Sarno's book gave you %90 improvement why not read it again and push on with it. I'll bet it's given you better results than anything else you've tried.
