I have been visiting this site for inspiration for a couple of years now. The theory of Dr Sarnos was introducted through a mountain bike riding forum which I used to visit often. The little bit it was discussed was enough to get me out to buy his first two books. MBP is not in my library but this latest bout with pain is getting me motivated to make another purchase.
Without a formal diagnosis, mine is a classic TMS personality and have been having symptoms since grade school. This includes mostly stiff necks and headaches in the early days. In later life along came allergies, digestive problems, reynauds disease, and a few other related crutches. I fully accept the idea behind TMS but find it very difficult to focus away from pain. This past week is punctuated with scapula, neck, shoulder symptoms that radiate into my arms and hands. With or without pain I almost always have popping and crackling in shoulders and upper back. With a long personal history and our cultural predisposition toward treating symptoms its hard to retrain oneself.
I love the relief that reading even a few paragraphs of any of the two books can give. However, with pain, I often seek placebos for more relief, this is with full knowledge that the real work is emotional and psychological. In a way though I am tired of introspection and trying to get to the root of emotions. A few recent posts have addressed this. TMS has, in fact, in subtle and insideous ways dominated my life and its time to tell it to get lost!
This site is great! I dont have a lot of time for gabbing on the internet anymore but its nice to know theres a supportive network of folks helping each other deal with this.
Thanks, Kristin |

Hi Kristin and welcome!
I am fairly new to the board myself and certain TMS concepts are just beginning to make sense on a so-called "gut level"--or as my therapist said today: "the cosmic tumblers are clicking into place." This after two or so months. Many on this board have recovered and you can too, just keep reading all of the literature and I invest in the Dr. Schechter CD set--someone on this board linked me and I'm sure if you are interested they'll do the same for you. Don't get discouraged. And don't always shoot for deep introspection. Oftentimes such an approach can actually perpetuate TMS. Once again, Welcome!
