There's just no escaping it, TMS wherever I go. I turn on the telly in the thirst for new knowledge and the injury talk begins. As luck would have it, the first image of the day is PBR, Professional Bull Riding, from Des Moines, Iowa. A rider, with the unlikely name of Robson Palermo, (he's from the Amazon jungle of Brazil and not from Sicily). The commentator says he's injured: "He has a compressed disc." He rides and stays on the required eight seconds, he leads the contest by a "full bull".
They do a feature on the next rider when he was in the hospital. His head was shaved, scars that look like railroad tracks from the top of his head to his neck. He had been kicked in the head by a bucking horse, making his head look like a "crushed Coke can". He's healed, back in the saddle and also made it through the competition wearing a special "indestructible" helmet. It seems like many of the riders today are from Mexico or Brazil. I wonder if they have as much TMS down there?--maybe in Puerto Vallarta.
Oy, my head hurts, these damn hard pillows in this hotel, I should remember to bring my own with me on my next trip. |
