Posted - 06/28/2011 : 20:36:52 Hi gang, Thought I would come by and post an update and get your opinions if at all possible. I guess it has been over a month since I first posted on here about my recurrence of my knee pain (see previous post). Well, since then I have been home in Canada and have been doing fairly well up until a couple of days ago. I have been jogging, playing tennis, and playing baseball without too many problems- some minor pain but not crippling or very concerning. Then seemingly out of the blue the pain has come back with a vengeance, combined with the hip tightness and intense calf cramping and stiffness. The only precipitating event was a run (but it didnt' hurt until two days after) and the fact that I was thinking about how it HADN'T hurt in a long time. No sooner had I had that thought then I could literally feel my leg tightening up... it was the strangest thing. I have been working more diligently on the Schubiner workbook and I haven't noticed any changes yet but I am going to keep trying. I am finding it very hard not to focus on the pain, which I know will only make the pain episode last longer.
I played soccer last night and baseball tonight and I am feeling it... I am trying not to give the pain any credence by avoiding stretching obsessively, etc. because I fear it might feed the pain. Not too sure about whether I should or shouldn't stretch tho. Should I continue to exercise or maybe try a low-intensity sport? I thought I might have enough money to go see Schubiner this summer, but it looks like I will have to wait til the fall. I guess I am just looking for some encouragement... or something. Or maybe suggestions for how to proceed? Thanks guys!! Alex |

Posted - 07/01/2011 : 21:27:53 Karen, It's been years since I "spoke" to you......and based on your last post you certainly sound like someone who has managed to find a way out of the TMS pit. I'm very pleased, as you crossed my mind several times throughout the years. I personally love that there are a few long timers on here....bouncing off and pushing each other can only be positive for the group as a whole.
on ya mate! (Aussie speak for "good on you")

Posted - 07/01/2011 : 08:19:02 I agree 100% with what Darko said..I have knee TMS for years on and off..My primary two locations are knee and neck..after that back. I am under a ton of stress and have also had precipitating events that seemingly caused physical issues..THe only one that was 'real' was being bashed by my 157pound wolf dog when he got spooked by a helicopter..I can tell that was physical..But, one must keep an 'eye' on one's thoughts and worries because if you don't the brain will use it as an excuse to prolong the injury and turn it into a chronic thing..which is really TMS..Upon reviewing Sarno recently he always talks about how our bodies have an amazing capacity to HEAL from anything and everything..Hope u feel better soon! |

Posted - 06/29/2011 : 13:25:41 The chances that your pain would return after all that time at the very moment you're thinking those thoughts makes it overwhelmingly likely it's TMS. No one can and should tell you what to do, but if it were I, I'd treat it accordingly. |

Posted - 06/28/2011 : 21:08:46 Hey Hopeful, there is no right or wrong way with this, just results....I don't really care much for the protocol but more for results. If stretching gives you a good result then do it. If you are stretching and not actually doing the work needed to ease TMS then that is no good and you will find out over time. I stretch, but I also focus hard on what is happening in my head....I watch my thoughts, and feelings. I have also noticed that is my mind is out of control then I get heaps more tension in my body which leads to more pain.
You have to understand that stretching is addressing the symptom and getting the mind straight is actually addressing the issue of why TMS occurs.....can you do both to get a faster result?...sure you can, just make sure you are aware which one takes priority.
Tension in the body is a dead give away. Bad thoughts, worry, concern creates tension in the body which creates pain.
How do you really feel at the moment, what is going on in your life? What are the things rattling around in your head, and what are your thoughts ABOUT these things. What do you have control over? Take action on what you can and delete all concerns about things you have no control over.....they create tension because you go over and over them in your head.....
