Has anybody healed things that would not be considered TMS problems by using mind/body programs like Dr. Sarno's?? For example -- thyroid. Since emotions that aren't dealt with can cause havoc in the body, is it possible for things like thyroid and adrenal problems to be cured along with the typical symptoms like fibro???

"THE DIVIDED MIND", page 70:

"In his discussion of actual psychosomatic disorders, Adler identifies a variety of physical states and conditions, including:

...Autoimmune disorders such as thyroid conditions."

The adrenal gland is mentioned on pages 210, 212, 218. Odds are 90% TMS versus 10% structural real. Always get checked out by a competent doctor to exclude real structural, preferably by a TMS doc, although they are few and far between. I'm not a real tennis player, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Adrenaline is released every time you get stressed. The more you get stressed the more sensitive your nervous system becomes, and the more readily it releases adrenaline. When this happens to excess, the glands are easily depleted, and fatigue is the result. It's easy to see how overcoming anxiety could reverse this process and improve adrenal problems. Thyroid, I'm not so sure about, but your mind has the unique ability of interfering with your body's natural ability to self-regulate. A healthy mind really does lead to a healthy body, and you give yourself the best chance of recovering from just about any ailment if you let your body operate as it was designed. Although the neocortex has led to the development of advanced civilisation, it's also caused a lot of needless suffering
