Posted - 07/29/2012 : 08:53:13 Apologies if this is a repeat, I found some various recommendations but not collected in one thread using the search function. Besides Dr. Sarno's books (I have read a couple but am not all the way there yet), what are the books people here have found the most helpful either in internalizing the message that the problem is TMS, and/or as providing practical treatment advice? Thanks for your replies. |

2- The Relaxation Response - Dr Herbert Benson. Benson is a pioneer in mind/body medicine, one of the first Western physicians to bring spirituality and healing into medicine. 3- Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom - Dr Rick Hanson. We have often been told that by altering our thoughts, deeds and words, we can create a happier, more fulfilled life. This book, at the intersection between psychology, neuroscience, and Buddhism, offers effective methods to show us how to live such a life by being fully present in the moment. Hanson and Mendius, a neuropsychologist and a neurologist and both practicing Buddhists, show us just how the brain programs us to experience the world a certain way by combining information from the external world with information held in neural pathways within the brain. These pathways operate in the background of our awareness, influencing our conscious mental activity. Unless we consciously interrupt this process, we are destined to develop deeper neural networks and even stronger programming.

Posted - 07/29/2012 : 09:19:32 Here's the list from this site's "HOME" page link--but as SteveO recently cautioned here, reading more and more TMS books can become a TMS afective symptom too. Reading just one TMS book, a couple of times thoughtfully, may be enough to do the trick. All the books outline the TMS fundamentals accurately enough. The harder part is absorbing the info on a subconscious cellular level. It can begin as easily as thumbing through the Good Doctor's first book "MIND OVER BACK PAIN" in the aisle of a bookstore.
G'luck
