The social soil of capitalism can alienate and enrage an unstable and miserable person who should be getting help but can’t find it. If, as reports are saying, the young man accused of these killings was on anti-depressant medication, it is all the more evidence that, at a time when hospitals are closing and health care is unavailable for tens of millions, treating mental health problems requires more from society than just prescribing dubious chemicals.

In general I like to stay clear of political discussions especially on a forum like this but this paragraph brought up an interesting question in my mind as to whether these anti-depressant drugs may make a psychologically troubled person much more dangerous to the point of mass killing. Any experts out there care to comment?

I'm no expert, though I occasionally like to play one on the Internet ...I've never heard of anti-depressant meds causing violent behavior toward others, though I have read there's a connection between these drugs and increased suicide, especially among younger users (teens I think)..
