Hi board,

There are several reasons for my posting this message: first and foremost I would like to wish everyone a happy new years, one free of TMS pain! Thanks for all the support; this board truly is wonderful. Now, back to me (:]), I think I'm making progress, albeit slowly, but after sifting through the messages posted here I realized that nothing is going to happen overnight. I continue to read a few pages of either Sarno and/or Sopher every day as well as journal. I also have commenced running again, despite the "shin splints". Even though this was never an issue for me (as I have noted before), I thought it would potentiate the healing process via deconditioning. While my chronic headache (which is my main and most distressing symptom) is not gone, it is a bit better than it has been in the past month or so, during which it seemed to increase in intensity. Oftentimes I'm faced with the--inevitable--conundrum: am I really making progress, or is it just flow supplanting ebb? And I say to myself, if I am asking this question in the first place, I must being making some progress, or else I wouldn't even be considering it to begin with. I have also been working hard to dismiss the fear that the antidepressants I am taking are the cause of my symptoms and that they are in fact gone, but it's the medications that are prolonging them (silly, I know). I spoke with my psychiatrist about the thought of discontinuing them, and he said that considering the gravity of the situation I was in when I first starting seeing him, that it is probably best to continue them for a few more years (as opposed to the recommending course of one year [for major depression at least]). In any event, my cockatiel is running amuck, so I must tend to him. Once again, happy new years!

Hi Seth

And Happy New Year to you when it arrives (Scottish superstition - if you wish someone a happy new year before the old year has ended, you must add, 'When it arrives'. We're full of superstitions at this time of year).

Like you, I have found corresponding with people who really knew what I was talking about very helpful and the advice and support I got was invaluable.

It sounds as though you are well on your way to recovery. It's good to hear that you have started your running again. I agree absolutely with your take on deconditioning - for me, that process took a while and was gradual, but, I feel all the better for it because I am now confident that all the work I did has ensured that my defences are in place now and I'm not in any danger of a relapse anymore.

I had headaches for a while (just one of many symptoms that I saw doctors about prior to the TMS settling down in my lower back). I tried a variety of medications, accupuncture and massage - non of which did any good. 'Tension headaches' were the words on my doctor's notes and, looking back that was a pretty good description.

Best wishes

Anne
