Page 91 "The Great Pain Deception":
"When I write that I am healed or cured, this means my back pain is gone after 27 years of continuous pain. People will always have various aches and pains because they are organic, thinking sentient beings. I would consider myself back to normal, where I was when I was 12 or 13 years old. As humans who possess the curses of anticipation and ego, there will always be some type of symptom, but life is now fun and enjoyable. I can see clearly now, the pain has gone, I understand the obstacles in my way." |

Brillaint, just brilliant, who said that?...ha ha.
Every word has to be gone over hundreds of times; switching nouns, combining sentences, so that there's not only accuracy, but that it's understandable to most. It's amazing to watch how the entire meaning of the sentence changes, sometimes with the entire paragraph, just by toggling a single adjective--the entire emotion of the sentence changes shades. Perfectionism has no end and no contentment.
Mark Twain wrote to Bainton, "The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter; it's the difference between the lightning bug and lightning." He was perfectly right, he should have been a writer.
I did the Janette Barber show last night on SiriusXM. She was great. She knows all about TMS and was ready, having read the book which is rare for a host to do. She dug into it pretty deep asking great questions. She told her listeners it was the best TMS book she had read and that her TMS had returned in her foot as PF; but after she read my book it was all but gone. I emailed her to see if the interview would be posted but she hasn't responded yet.
Her audience is loyal to her and they were fascinated by TMS, and all the hosts have been so far, from LA to NY. An hour after her interview the book went from 104,000 in the Amazon rankings to 2,800. It passed up Healing Back Pain for the first time. But it can't hold on against the good doctor's book, it's just too good. It's my favorite of all of them, imo.
All I really needed was HBP but everyone thinks they need more. I see it here too, the want of more and more information, which is TMSing in itself. We can avoid the work that needs done by procrastinating and thinking the next book will be the one--when we already know what we have to do. There was someone named Cath who was here that finally understood that and took action. I wonder how she is doing.
Tom, will you be available to talk sometime? I would like to talk to you soon, and Wavvy, and WorldTravler, and good ole Dustin too. I was reminded of Wavvy tonight when I went to the store and saw some Lays potato chips. Lots of catching up to do with some good folks.
Dr. Sarno told me in March there would be resistance to "his" TMS message; even with those people who say they believe it. Amen.

Hi SteveO,
Congratulations on the interview and the book's success! You can call anytime, I'm on a road trip but I'll pick-up if I'm in range or I'll call back when I settle in somewhere.
Cheers tt |

Bingo! Thanks for these words. This is what I'm working on right now. Trying to quiet my mind and just focus on doing the work. Cancelled my massage and acupuncture appointments this week. Seeing nocebos everywhere I look. It's amazing what a little change in perspective can do. |

Hi Sara
We have occasional breakthroughs or ah ha moments that are part of a healing process. It looks like you just had one. There normally isn't a single word or one thing, but rather a culmination of learning where all the knowledge results in a move forward. We can gather and gather information into a temple of healing that we begin to worship, at some level; the acquired knowledge gives us a feeling of security. But healing can stop right there in the acquisition stage unless action is taken.
There are people here who understand TMS at the highest levels but can't always take it to the bank and heal all the way.
I've tried to help as many people as I could through writing and talking. Through those years I would sometimes lean on my friend Marc Sopher's clinical experience and professional knowledge to help them. After some time we got into a quasi routine where he would confirm to me what the person most likely had and then he would say, "it's time for them to get to work."
The acceptance and acquisition is only a part of the process. I like how you said here that you needed to "quiet my mind and just focus on doing the work." You didn't have to cancel your massage though. Can I take your spot?
Massage is a great way of soothing your sympathetic nervous system which is what you need to do here. But if you're having massage for the specific purpose of reducing pain then you should stop. The deeper self knows why you are doing something. It's just like stretching. Some people may have healed by not caring whether it was a pain reducer or not but that's rare. The brain knows because you know, and it's your brain. If you're performing a pain reducing maneuver you can slow healing dramatically. Movement can reduce fear but that's only part of complete healing.
Tom when you said you were on a road trip it immediately reminded me of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Are you on a whacky college romp getting into zany trouble with sorority girls?
Good ole Dustin is right. I can tell a good person, trying to be upbeat, trying to help people, trying to do what is right. I look forward to speaking to you soon. Things have been hectic here. Do you have Skype?
Janette Barber has the same mission as I do, to make TMS a household phrase, to move it beyond those who think outside the box like this site does. It is currently an esoteric process. She was great in our interview. She was well versed on TMS, she asked relevant and insightful questions and she wants to move TMS forward as an obligatory response to having found it herself. They normally don't keep the recordings of the interviews but I told her how much information TMSers need, they are "information junkies"... their penicillin. So she had her producer send me audios before they destroyed them in case people wanted to hear more. She is doing TMS good; she talks about it on her show whenever she can.

I wish! But no, I have a gf and cheating would be too stressful and make my butt hurt even more. Like I think you said, relationships are the biggest source of TMS--ain't it the trooth! I'm on a 1,000 mile so far, beautiful relaxing drive up the Pacific Coast from frisco to Vancouver Island, BC. Just me the Jeep, the winding coast, forests, and no left turns or I'll be over the cliff with the sea lions and the whales. Making a stop at a grass court tennis tournament I bumped into by accident, nothing like playing barefoot on the grass to make the body feel good!
Thanks for checking in here and reinforcing the TMS fundamentals, I can spout them 'til I'm blue in the face but not many believe it coming from a tennis player.
When are you gonna' be on Stossel, Oprah, Leno or my personal favorite , the King of all Media, and champion of TMS, Howard Stern? Wouldn't it be fun to throw bologna at the butts of naked strippers? You don't have to answer that.
BTW, I saw Egoscue too a couple of times and asked him about Sarno, he said he had lively debates with him.

I do have Skype...usually use it on one of my iDevices. So whatever works.
Trying to be upbeat, trying to help people, trying to do what is right...doesn't that make me a "goodist" TMSer?? LOL

Thanks Steve! I go back and forth on massage as a stress reducer or a medical modality. This time I knew it was to "heal" my pain, so that's why I cancelled. I'm working on finding other, more psychological ways to soothe my anxiety. I find it really easy to put off getting into my head and need to focus on that.
Thanks again for your opinion! |

Wavy here, wondering why potato chips remind you of me!
I just turned 61 and had a great party and again tonight went dancing at Yoshi's in San Francisco with friends, and leaped around like a crazy gazelle. Whenever I decided I was tired or hurting I just kept going and pulled from universal energy.
Call me, don't be a stranger steveo (and anyone else welcome to call for TMS talk)
I'm ktdarling on Skype
Love is the answer, whatever the question |
