Hello
I have come across your website from over here in England and found it very interesting.
I've been having a tough couple of years, somebody has to! First came back pain, followed by pelvic pain, followed by forearm ( bilateral ), followed by foot pain, followed by stiff neck/shoulder. Currently i have all the above in mild to moderate form.
The latest from the medical community is a positive ultra sound test showing a blood vessel compressing in the shoulder as i raise my arms. Possible thoracic outlet syndrome. I am pursuing TMS as a cause but still have naggging doubts about this test result.
How does it tie in with TMS? What activities should i avoid?
The nurse has told me to avoid lifting weights ( only 10kg barbell), not to peg out washing above my head, generally to avoid activities raising arms. I am involved with a lot of DIY around the house and i need to know if i should stop that. She also said that i could start to erode the blood vessel if i persist, like bending and re-bending a drinking straw?
How does it come about?
Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Welcome to the forum.
I don't think you'll find much help here in discussions about what kind of physical activities you should avoid. The short answer is: none.
You need to read The Mindbody Prescription and Healing Back Pain.
The most important question is: do you recognize yourself in the TMS personality type? |

Rich, I was diagnosed with TOS as well, in addition to RSI in both wrists. It's a meaningless diagnosis with no concrete scientific evidence to back it up... just like herniated discs. Six months after discovering Sarno, my wrist/forearm pain is gone. Yours will be too.
Read this: http://www.conquerrsi.com/mystory.html this: http://podolsky.everybody.org/rsi/ and this: http://home.interlog.com/~abraham/RSI.htm
...to convince yourself that TOS/RSI has nothing to do with physical defects. Keep reading Sarno, resume normal physical activity, and try to take an emotional inventory to discover where your pain could be coming from unconsciously.
Good luck.

Hi. I just found this forum today and I find it very interesting. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple of years ago but have felt pretty strongly that my body pain is associated with repressed emotions with the most likely culprit being rage/anger, possibly fear. Maybe even anger at being afraid. I have no clue. But I'd like to figure this out so that I can heal. I'm very interested in reading Dr. Sarno. I find that Seanf is right in resuming normal physical activities. I think when a fear to move or simply an 'inability' to move takes over, you're pretty muich down hill from there. And it does seem that that inability finds it's beginning in the mind, at least it did for me. Gotta kick that right outta there before rigormortis (is that the right word?) sets in. LOL. Trying to do that now. Glad I found this place. I look forward to checking out the posts here. (is it okay that I start at the back of the book?)
