As a result of the lack of Canadian help with TMS I have been devising a rather successful approach to resolving TMS using Hypnotherapy. Anyone else out there been using meditation or Hypnosis to help them?
Anyone in the Toronto area need help with a TMS condition?

I do try to meditate when I can, which probably isn't often enough. I'm not very good at it, but in one of her excellent books, Pema Chodron points out that everybody thinks they are doing it wrong. So I have hope. I thought about hypnotherapy but have gotten tired of this rat race of running from doctor to therapist to doctor. Right now I'm doing well enough all on my own--which has given me tremendous faith in our ability to heal ourselves. Some of the people on this forum believe in a pure Sarno approach, while others, like me, are successfully using a mixture of modalities. Whatever techniques you employ, however, I think the main thing is to fully understand the cause of TMS.

I have had a few harangs about doctors and the importance of self healing on various threads, but I cannot even keep track of all that I have written. With TMS, however, the source of healing is within yourself and not an outside practioner. Yes, those knowledgeable about TMS may give you a bit of guidance but they cannot bring you to your desired destination. This is your path. When one has a proper understanding of TMS then they will see the pain not as an enemy or something to be feared, but as a reminder that there are unconscious emotions- mostly rage- that are buried deep within but are not allowed to escape into consciousness. It is not important to pin-point the exact emotion that is bringing about your symptoms, the goal is to think pyschologically and thus giving the pain no attention. What doctor is going give you that piece of advice? Instead, the will give you pain pills, put you through endless tests, place you on anti-depressants and generally offer you a worse case scenario with little hope of recovery as well as vague comments about how you will deteriorate ove time. TMS, on the otherhand, offers you hope, genuine hope and, my friend, inside of you is the real doctor which will bring you to full wholeness. See yourself for what you really are- completely healthy and not a thing wrong with you. Hurray for you!

Seems to me a rather garden variety commercial solicitation, hypno. I doubt very much this is the place for you to drum up customers.

Ethics aside, hypnosis seems beside the point, TMS-wise.

Dr Sarno is not too keen on hypnosis as a treatment modality and that its effectiveness is temporary at best as it does not address long standing issues residing within the patient. Perhaps it could help do uncover some repressed emotions, but to bring about recovery from TMS it is not necessary to unconver those emotions. The healing comes in the seeking, not in necessarily in the finding. For TMS it's not "seek and ye shall find," but it's "seek and ye shall recover."
