A quick bit about me first. Last 2 years I've been dealing with TMS, (although I've only realized this about 2 months ago.) First I had RSI in one wrist and both arms (tennis elbow and lots of trigger points), then I had TMJ dysfunction followed by tinnitus. I had to drop out of music school because of these things and couldn't work for a year. I then had bad pain in both knees for about a year.

Anyways, upon reading one of Sarno's books, over the last 2 months my knees have returned more or less to normal, my trigger points in arms have more or less disappeared, and I was able to start playing guitar again after 2 year break! My tinnitus still remains though and my left wrist is still slowly improving. There's been a few more symptoms coming and going, which seems to give more evidence of TMS being the correct diagnosis.

In spring though I developed a real sensitivity to light, particularly artificial light, meaning any type of screen, or headlights from vehicles. My current job has me driving at night a lot, which could be the problem and I'm looking at getting a new job anyways. But I'm wondering - Is photophobia a common manifestation of TMS?

Hi Tyler,

At my age of 66 I have both eye issues and tinnitus, I havn’t taken any TMS time with these yet to comment, but on searching this forum for Photophobia I found surprisingly only one mention here:

http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1337&SearchTerms=photophobia

It should be noted that Photopohobia and Tinnitus are mentioned in the same thread where Sound sensitivity (hyperacusis) is also mentioined. One could rationalize that these two issues are in the same TMS class being tied to our senses Hearing and Sight.

I would diminish the driving anguish by getting tinted glasses, and call it a day at that.

You come here with one post and a success story to boot, a boost to others seeking relief.

Thanks

Andy

Many posts here on tinnitus/TMS--try a "Search" (see the Tabs above on the right.

What does your eye doc say about your eyes?

Thanks for the replies! Yeah I searched and found the one thread on this site that mentions photophobia before starting this thread. Since it seemed to be the only place its mentioned,(I've also done a Google search on it with no results relating to TMS) I figured it was worth starting a thread on it specifically. If it is part of TMS, then it seems like a very rare symptom. My optometrist did say my eyes were looking healthy though, and that sensitive eyes are experienced more by people who are much older than me (I'm only 26.) So I guess I may have to wait until I switch jobs and see if there is a difference..

Modern medicine is excellent at DX'ing disease and structural issues. If your doc is competent, then you performed your TMS due-diligence, eliminating medical issues that require treatment, you are then free to pursue TMS solutions. If you still don't feel sure there's nothing organically wrong with your eyes, get as many 2nd opinions as you need to reassure yourself.

I'm 66 and just drove 500 miles in the dark with no issues. It sounds like you don't like your job and your sub-c is transmitting that dissatisfaction creating TMS symptoms through your eyes.

If you want to learn about the mysteries of vision/VISION look into the teachings and books by Dr. Michael Roberto Kaplan, a world renown eye doctor who's approach is complementary to the TMS/psychosomatic dis-ease approach.

G'luck!
