I've had so many different symptoms that I think they ought to make a book about them. Anyone ever have "geographic tongue"? Thank God I don't have it now, but that was strange. They seem to get more strange each time. How far can I go? Enough I hope. Thanks for all your writings. It feels good that others understand TMS.

I had so many symptoms that I felt I should write a book too. And so I did. I never had geographic tongue. Dr. Sopher took my list of ailments and wrote "good idea" next to it and hand wrote several more in for me that he had seen in his office.

The first one I noted was burning mouth syndrome. He had seen several and they were TMS. Any body area or system can be used by the brain in repressed emotionality. The more severe the conflict the more dangerous the potential expression of that conflict.

The most frightening I experienced was the falling down from vertigo for months on end with nystagmus. I think the only pain I didn't have was headaches. But you know headaches are all in your head though.

Immune system drops are common, and food poisening occurs where it normally wouldn't. Many people reported food poisening even though the people around them ate the same food. I had this too, in critical TMS.

I spoke with a guy who only had pain when his eyes were open. If he closed them his hand pain immediately stopped. It was very interesting research that I wouldn't have committed to if I hadn't been through it.

My favorite one was a guy brought into Dr. Sopher's office on a stretcher. He couldn't walk or sit or stand due to severe back pain. The paramedics rolled him off the gurney and onto the waiting room floor and left. There he lay like a board. The guy was scheduled to have a morphine pump implanted in his spinal canal so he could control the pain as he wanted by releasing morphine as needed. Dr. Sopher came out to see the guy and looked at his reports and told him that he was ok, to get up. The guy was shocked because his doctor told him he needed a M-pump. Of course this is the nocebo effect, and people just gridlock when given faulty medical advice (good idea for a subtitle).

The guy started TMS healing and is ok now. That PPDA can go a long way to stop this type of insane practice. They have the potential to do something amazing here.

I would list more ailments but I think people would begin to get them. We pass on ailments like colds. Just like the tic/twitching/conversion disorder in LeRoy, NY in January. If the mind is currently divided it is highly susceptible. So visualize good things and have good thoughts. Best leave the symptoms in the holster to protect the empathic ones.

Anyone can heal, you just have to believe it, and relax and allow healing to take place. The body heals itself if the condition are right. And those conditions are NOT right when in a state of extreme anxiety.

When beginning to acquire TMS knowledge:

1) full belief is first
2) relaxation is second

Great post SteveO!, and it's great to have you back. After thousands of TMS posts here, I need some of that relaxation you mentioned. My hip is starting to "thaw out" after some of the encouraging TMS thoughts from you, Dr. Zafirides and another doctor here, Ace1, who's heard Dr. Sarno say hips are TMS also. I've never heard of "geographic tongue" but it sounds like something that would be an asset if one was a porn star. I'll have to google it even though it's not a good idea for TMS'ers to go symptom googling.

Cheers,
tt

Hi Tom, it's nice to hear from you. Has anyone stolen one of my books yet? I would consider it a great honor of someone just stole one, and some towels.

I suggested that technique to you because it worked for my hip. I also had it work for a lady with shoulder pain and another with arm pain. I need to come up with another name for it though. I connected the deep emotional pain to the physical in one moment's time, and it was gone.

Hip pain has to be TMS unless the joint is worn out. The question is, when is the joint worn out? Most physicians would say it's when there is pain, but we know this isn't true at all. So it's nebulous. From what I glean from the good doctor's work and from what he has seen and said, it seems to be that the joint only needs replaced when it simply won't function anymore. It opens but won't close, it separates or won't move, it won't move...etc. But then you can get into TMS types of symptoms again, locking and freezing, etc. So your biggest mistake could have been seeing a TMS "physician" who gave you the wrong diagnosis. As you know, Dr. Sarno and those in his inner circle feel that hip pain is TMS, and that some are hurting the cause deeply by sending mixed messages.

You are too young to have hip pain. As you read my story you see I pounded my body into healing submission. I would test your hip to its limit with healthy and fun extra-size if you lived near me. Tennis, P90X, and naked skydiving.

MichaelB has some typical TMS gremlins. He's fortunate than most, he is at the right place and will heal.

I spent some time tonight looking online at "the best back pain books" on the internet. I had hoped mine would be there, but it wasn't and neither were the good doctor's or any TMS books. All the "best back books" were on how to sit up straight, and how to pick things up properly, and how to hold your stomach in for good core stability, etc. I can't believe in this age that we are still blood-letting. But the truth integrates slowly as proven throughout history. The expansion of natural knowledge is slow and tedious.

I've had geographic tongue since I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis twenty two years ago. Still here and still have my tongue. It's a harmless if irritating condition (sometimes very acidic foods like balsamic vinegar create some mild discomfort.

I am also experiencing hip pain and loss of range of motion in the right one...was x-rayed and told it was tendonitis...so I'm in the same boat!

If you are interested I can tell you a method of how to get rid of a lot of GT. Worked for me.
Sometimes being extra sensitive can be hell.

Wow...geographic tongue as a manifestation of TMS? Hadn't considered that. That's one I've "suffered" from for a few years. Irritating is right. And mine comes and goes regularly...is that typical? If you've got a method to get rid of it..SHARE! SHARE!

SteveO,

What is the title of your book?
Where can I get a copy?
I swore that I would never read another book about TMS pain, but I guess it couldn't hurt.

Marsha - SteveO's book is called "The Great Pain Deception" and you can find it on his website www . paindeception . com and it looks like you can also find it on Amazon. I haven't read it yet...but I may after I'm done with "The Mindbody Prescription" :)

SteveO - I looked in the iTunes store to see if I could buy it on my iPad and I could not find it. Any plans to offer through the iTunes Store? Although I could just try to steal one since you want your book stolen...LOL. Wait, does it count as stealing if the author asks you to do it...?

Ok here it goes. The method that worked for me on how to get rid or at least cut down on GT (geographic tongue). Simple. Get a tube of over the counter Cortizone 10 max strength with Aloe. At night just before going to bed, take a small dab (about 1/4 inch or less) and rub it on your tongue, especially where the lesions are. Leave it on. Do not add more. Do not brush your teeth or gargle until morning. According to my dentist this is a safe amount. Do this for about 4 days, take a day break and then for 3 days. continue until you are done in days and see what has happened. Should work. If it doesn't work, wait 3 days start again. If it doesn't work after that, You got me as to what is wrong. It is also nice to get mental heath help. Should work. let me know how you did. It sure has worked for me. And I know how much it can hurt. I expect you will write and say "THANK YOU, MICHAEL B."

I had the geographic tongue 20 years ago before I learned about TMS. I had forgot about having this. I developed the geographic tongue in my early twenties and diagnosed with "eptein bar" syndrome. I had been to many doctors that did not know what it was. It eventually resolved on its own without any treatment. I have also had so many TMS equivalents throught the years. I am currently struggling with leg pain and weekness which has been hell. I am keeping positive and pushing through it. I hope you geographic tongue resolves quickly.

Definition of Geographic Tongue:
By Mayo Clinic Staff

Geographic tongue is a harmless condition affecting the surface of your tongue. The tongue is normally covered with tiny, pinkish-white bumps (papillae), which are actually short, fine, hair-like projections. With geographic tongue, patches on the surface of the tongue are missing papillae and appear as smooth, red "islands," often with slightly raised borders.

These patches (lesions) give the tongue a map-like, or geographic, appearance. The lesions often heal in one area and then move (migrate) to a different part of your tongue. Geographic tongue is also known as benign migratory glossitis.

Although geographic tongue may look alarming, it doesn't cause health problems and isn't associated with infection or cancer. Geographic tongue can sometimes cause tongue discomfort and increased sensitivity to certain substances.

I got geographic tongue about 2 years ago. Also known under the name Migratory glosstitis, it is the condition which impacts both sides and the top of the tongue. Even though it is harmless, it can be rather uncomfortable problem.
Symptoms include:
Map-like appearance to the surface of the tongue
Patches that move from day to day
Smooth, red patches and sores (lesions) on the tongue
Soreness and burning pain (in some cases)
The exact cause of this oral condition is hard to identify. There are some factors which can trigger this condition like emotional stress as well as few other psychological disorders, allergies, oral para-functional habits, deficiency of nutrition, disturbances of hormone and diabetes.
Actually, no treatment is needed. Antihistamine gel or steroid mouth rinses may help ease discomfort. But I highly recommend you some remedies can apply at home in order to get rid of this oral condition as well as improve your oral health. For myself, I used aloe vera. You need to take some gel from a fresh leaf of Aloe Vera and apply directly onto the tongue. After 10 minutes, cleanse off using warm water. Perform couples of time every day.

STOP! This is not a forum for describing symptoms and giving links where people can go and find out more about them — as SteveO said above, we suggestible people here can “catch” them like the wave of people with some weird illness he mentioned in NY in 2012.

The whole point is to take our attention OFF the physical, and OFF obsessing about symptoms, and ONTO knowledge therapy, relaxing, etc., and to encourage each other to do that.

Love is the answer, whatever the question
